Summer Scholars Needs Volunteers
Posted on January 28, 2012Summer Scholars is seeking volunteers to tutor elementary students and provide administrative support in a variety of ways. With a mission “to narrow the educational achievement gap,” Summer Scholars’ after-school program provides reading, writing and math support to students performing below grade level.
You can work directly with elementary students as a reading or math buddy or assist adult English-language learners and their preschool children. Volunteers can also work with students in the recreation component by helping with homework, assisting in games and crafts or facilitating hands-on science. The Summer Scholars’ central office also has opportunities to provide administrative program support in a variety of ways, including materials preparation, data entry and phone communication. Needs also exists for Spanish language speakers and writers.
The next orientation session is scheduled for 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Summer Scholars’ central office (3401 Quebec St. #5010).
